GUEST POST: 5 Ways Families Can Save Money

When it comes to saving money, there are so many different things one can do to achieve their goal. Whether a person likes to use coupons, shop at thrift stores or eat at home instead of going out for dinner, a person can really save a lot of money over time. However, it’s harder when you have a family. Not only does one have to spend money on themselves, but they have to provide for their spouse and children as well.  So, if you’d like to learn how to save money as a family, here are some tips you may want to consider.
1. Dine Out on Certain Days of the Week
If your family likes to eat out, be sure to check out the restaurants in your area that run certain deals or specials on certain days of the week, or at certain times of the day.  For example, some restaurants allow children under certain ages to eat for free.  This is a great way for the family to spend time together, eat a good meal, yet not spend too much money.
2. Buy Used Clothes and Toys
When it comes to your child’s clothing, as well as toys, it’s always a great idea to buy used.  Whether you buy t-shirts at a garage sale for $1.00 or you buy their toys at a mom to mom sale, you can save money, yet still give them what they need and want.  Not to mention that a child doesn't really care or pay attention to what they're wearing until they start school and see what other children are wearing.
3. Take Advantage of Libraries
Since we pay so much money in taxes, it only makes sense to take full advantages of the libraries in our area.  So, if you’d like to save money by cutting out the Internet or from having to buy new books and movies all the time, simply visit the library. Have your kids use the library to surf the web, do their homework or check out a new book.  This can be a lot of fun for kids and can really help you get your money’s worth, in more than one way.
4. Have Fun without Gadgets
Today, we live in a fast-paced, technological world.  Though technology is great for supplying jobs, entertainment and learning, it’s also a good idea to come across hobbies that don’t require gadgets.  For example, you can save on your electric bill by not running the TV so much or save money by not having to buy your child the latest video games.  Instead, you can take time as a family to play a simple board game or pick up a family sport you all enjoy.
5. Grow a Garden
One of the best things a family can do is grow a garden.  Not only does this allow members the opportunity to eat more produce, but they can eat organic produce, find a good hobby and save money while growing a garden.  This saves so many trips to and from the grocery store and can allow you to grow their dinner right in their backyard.

As you can see, there are some great tips to consider if you’re looking to save money as a family.  So, whether you buy your child’s clothes used or you take full advantage of a local library, you can all save money and not have to work so hard to earn it.
